Train Market Samut Songkhram

Maeklong Railway Market

The railway became famous for its route through the Maeklong Railway Market, nicknamed the “umbrella pulldown market”. It is one of the largest fresh seafood markets in Thailand and is centered on the Maeklong Railway’s track. Whenever a train approaches, the awnings and shop fronts are moved back from the rails, to be replaced once the train has passed.

My Walking Story:

After taking a bath, I checked out at 12pm and asked them to drop me at a place name “Maeklong Railway Market”

Maeklong Railway Market is a popular Thai market selling fresh vegetables, food, and fruit in the province of Samut Songkhram, southwest of Bangkok. What makes the market special is that it involves part of a train line. Sometimes a day, a train runs directly through the market. Some minutes before the train comes, hucksters lower their umbrellas and shift some of their produce away from the train tracks. Tourists especially visit over here to see this market and click the pictures, and videos I also have made a video of it you can check on blogs and photos as well. Maeklong Railway Market was my third destination in this city. Which was 4-5kms away from my hotel. I reached in the afternoon and had lunch on the market side, while I was curiously waiting for the train to pass by. I was really excited to see how vendors wind up the market when the train passes through it and again puts it on.

The train was going to arrive by 2:30 pm so meanwhile, I was just passing my time as wanted to see this particular scenario. When I hear the train horn, step aside or into the nearest shop to get my camera ready. While the train moves through the market at a slow pace, it’s still dangerous so be aware of your surroundings but it was amazing.

So basically I covered three places that are: Amphawa Floating Market, Baan Loylom Farm Stay, and Maeklong Railway Market.

After the train passed by I went to the van station as it was pretty close to Maeklong Railway Market. Hired a van and went back to Bangkok. This is how I ended my one-day trip over here.
