Day 3 - Visited Some Kandy Sightseeing : Sri Lanka (Dec’18) 1

Kandy Sightseeing

Kandy is a large city in central Sri Lanka. It’s set on a plateau surrounded by mountains, which are home to tea plantations and biodiverse rainforest. The city’s heart is scenic Kandy Lake (Bogambara Lake), which is popular for strolling.

Walking around the lake in the evening and viewpoint. The origin of the more popular name for the city, Senkadagala, could have been from a number of sources. These include naming it after a brahmin named Senkanda who lived in a cave near the city, after a queen of King Wickramabahu named Senkanda, or after a colored stone named Senkadagala.

Kandy Lake Club Cultural Show

The Kandy Lake Club Cultural Dance Show is a stimulating Sri Lankan Arts, Dance & Cultural Heritage Show that is a must-see for any visitor who visits the historic city of Kandy. My Walking  Story :

Further, continuing my trip towards Kandy destination, I reach Kandy around 4-5 pm in the evening along with my cousin, as from Chilaw it takes four to five hours to reach Kandy and that was the perfect time to be there. While Kandy is a large city in central Sri Lanka. It’s set on a plateau surrounded by mountains, which are home to tea plantations and biodiverse rainforest.

The city’s heart is scenic Kandy Lake (Bogambara Lake), which is popular for strolling. Kandy has a wetter plus cooler climate than most of the country because of its position in the mountainous central region of Sri Lanka.  We were enjoying the cooler weather and breeze passing by from our hairs, touching skin was making me feel so good. Kandy is the most famous place in Sri Lanka and is a walkable city. My driver parked the car in one spot, and we went towards the lake by walking and roam around the city by walking only. As walking is also the best way to see all the best things to do in Kandy, including the temples, markets, plus other sites around the lake.

Then we went towards the viewpoint from where one can see the aerial view of the city. Capture the beautiful view from there and tried a few poses along with beautiful background, one can see the pictures on my blog, while the weather was awesome and cool which makes no requirement of an Air-conditioner.

Moreover, walking around the lake in the evening and viewpoint. The origin of the more popular name for the city, Senkadagala, could have been from several sources. These include naming it after a brahmin named Senkanda who lived in a cave near the city, after a queen of King Wickramabahu named Senkanda, or after a colored stone named Senkadagala. We had a lot of fun over there and Kandy lake was really a peaceful area considered the heart plus soul of the city. It was positive beauty that one cannot ignore and a kind of good vibe.

While in the middle of the lake there was a tiny island along with few palm trees, identified as one of Kandy’s iconic views.  In the evening we also sat near the lakeside and was observing local people plus tourists, enjoying the beauty and roaming here and there in order to see nearby places. We were also trying the local food stalls available over there, as I am a foodie and love to try new cuisines or fruits, etc. it was 7 in the evening and we went to the place where our car was parked.

One thing I would like to say is that our driver was a friendly and helpful person, he also bought a ticket for a cultural show which takes place in the evening which is known as Kandy Lake Club Cultural Show. He already told me that he will keep ready the tickets for us till we return from sightseeing at the same spot. We went to attend the show, I would like to provide information regarding the show.

After enjoying the show, our driver took us towards the hotel location as it was 8 pm already. The name of the hotel was Thilanka Hotel in Kandy, it was a nice place, while it was a tranquil luxury resort in the heart of Dambulla surrounded by paddy fields and orchards with modern amenities at your fingertips. I was enjoying the lovely view and my eyes were in love with this greenery and amazing scene. We completed our check-in formalities and did some rest, then after some time we got ready to have our dinner in the hotel only. the hotel was far from the city area but has all the facilities available including a buffet dinner plan, music, bar, etc so there was no need to went outside for dinner or for anything else, as I was enjoying live music along with mouth-watering foods, one can see the photos of that on my blog.

The vibe of the place was positive and refreshing, while I tried few drinks as well. I also clicked pictures posing with the musician. We were staying for a single night over this place, so went into our room and had a nice sleep. In the morning I had captured a few nice pictures of the hotel while going away, it was beautiful. I enjoyed to the fullest… Thank you!
