Day 4 & 5 - Visited Sita Amman Temple, Hanuman Footprint & More : Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka (Dec’18) 1

My Walking Story :

Today I am going to describe day fourth and fifth I spend at Nuwara Eliya. I would like to inform one you that Nuwara Eliya is that place where Goddess Sita, wife of Lord Ram was kept by Ravana as a prisoner and Lord Hanuman visited over there, while Hanuman’s footprint was also there in nowadays according to mythology book Ramayana, which was my main intension to visit at this place and over here temperature used to be 10 degree, which means cold weather.

This place contains a history of Hinduism plus it is a famous spot for cool weather also for tourists, that’s why I target this place to visit. After completing my check-out formalities from the previous location, we did our breakfast and proceed towards Nuwara Eliya. During our traveling we enjoy everything related to food and the scene, first, we visit Rambodha Waterfall.

This is the perfect shot I got at Rambodha Water Fall near Nuwara Eliya. If you are planning to visit here, then spend at least half a day. You will be experiencing hiking to Water Fall as well as good views. There is an entrance ticket as well. One must walk long distances at a certain height to explore the place, it was a picnic spot for the people, but we were travellers so didn’t go on much height as we don’t spend all our energy over here. We have a few more places to visit. We were moving around 2 km and I capture all the beautiful views.

Rambodha Waterfall is a Rivers, as they flow over uneven ground or down mountains, often split into tributaries or form waterfalls. Sometimes two tributaries of the same river may form twin waterfalls very close to each other as the water spills down cliffs and rocks. But you should plan for the day. One can check all the pictures on my blog. Monks were also spotted over there in the passage side, I guess there must be a temple above the height of the mountain.

The next place we went was Storefield Tea Factory, which was suggested by our driver and you won’t believe that was the place where I found tea to be costlier than anything and varieties of tea were available. Still, we tried a few samples of tea over there along with my cousin and explore the tea field, also captured a beautiful tea field picture. One tea bag rate was around four to five thousand rupees.

They explained everything about how it manufactures and every activity related to tea formation. While Nuwara Eliya is a city in the tea country hills of central Sri Lanka. The naturally landscaped Hakgala Botanical Gardens displays roses and tree ferns, and shelters monkeys and blue magpies. Nearby Seetha Amman Temple, a colorful Hindu shrine, is decorated with religious figures. Stonefield tea factory. Museum and promotion center on the way to Nuwara Eliya. For general knowledge a good place to drop. But very expensive tea.

Another destination was Shri Bhakta Hanuman Temple, where a huge statue of Lord Hanuman was built, and it is very popular among Hinduism. It was built on the mountain and we attend prayer (aarti and prasad) which was a soul-touching feeling for me. Moreover, Shri Bhakta Hanuman Temple is constructed by the Chinmaya Mission of Sri Lanka. Located in Rambodha on Kandy-Nuwara Eliya Road located approximately 30 odd kilometers North of Nuwara Eliya on A-5 route facing the Kotmale Reservoir.

During our road trip, I was capturing all the beautiful spots which were attracting me whether it was around the tea field or on the way with local people or vendors. Then we stop at a good restaurant in between our way, where we found delicious Sri Lankan food and love the taste along with sweets, I have posted the pictures on my blog one can see. While enjoying everything we reach at our hotel side at around 4 pm and the hotel was located at a certain height where one must walk and go. The weather was getting cold.

After doing some rest, we headed towards our next main destination which was Seetha Amman Temple in the evening, and people do believe that here is the footprint of Hanuman was there as he came to meet Goddess Sita over here, when she imprisoned by Ravana according to history, one can see the different place where Goddess Sita use to take bath and spend her time.

I was curious to see all the spots and the place where Goddess Sita was kept known as Ashok Vatika. The Sita Amman Temple dedicated to Sita, the wife of Lord Rama, situated in the hills of Nuwara Eliya, is treated with enduring devotion by Hindus as it is the only such temple in the world. It is located five kilometers along the road from Nuwara Eliya to Kandy. It was a beautiful place one can visit, calm and peaceful and we did prayer, I feel a certain kind of satisfaction and happy feeling over here and after that, we went back to our hotel as the atmosphere was getting cold.

We wore our jacket and proper clothes to protect ourselves from cold and ask the driver to drop us at the marketplace and go, we’ll be back by ourselves to the hotel. From the inner side, I was feeling that the city was small and if we don’t get any conveyance, so we must walk around 2-3 km which going to be congested for us without streetlights. The hotel was also at the height of the mountain but still, we ask him to drop into the city and he drops us into the market, we started exploring the market by walking and I found one restaurant along with many foreigners sitting around.

We went over there to have our dinner, they were serving roti, dal, etc in a Sri Lankan style which was too heavy to finish. At the night the market gets close so there was nothing much to see at that time, we came back to the hotel. We were facing difficulty in getting any auto as on both sides of the auto a curtain was there because of that one cannot see if the auto is vacant or any passenger is there. Still, we were trying our best to stop every auto, luckily, we got one and he drops us at our hotel location. While the name of the hotel was Seasons Villa, we spent the Night at Seasons Villa, Nuwara Eliya Seasons Villa Nuwara Eliya nest in a Charming and quiet surrounding with plenty of Vegetation around it. Our Villa is located in Nuwara Eliya city limit, just 10 minutes walking distance to famous lake Gregory and Nuwara Eliya racecourse. Victoria Park and Royal Golf Club are just 1.5 km away from the Villa.

Do check the morning view of the hotel, it was beautiful. After capturing some photos, we went for our breakfast, spend time in the sunshine, and love the architecture of the hotel. As for this present day, we also have our flight for Colombo at night. I remember that after done with our breakfast we check-out from the hotel around 10 am in morning. While there was one more famous lake name Gregory Lake, Nuwara Eliya, as in the daytime one can enjoy the soothing feel at the lakeside.

I captured few pictures of the place and I would like to describe more about this lake. Gregory Lake was built under the period of British Governor Sir William Gregory in 1873. This is the most prominent attraction in Nuwara Eliya, and all the visitors used to come here and spent some time by the lake and relax. This was used as a place for water sports and for re-recreational activities during British time. Gregory lake gets crowded during the April tourist season. You can walk around the lake. The lake and the surrounding area make up the Gregory Lake Area. The power station continues to supply electricity to the town to this day. In British times Lake Gregory was used for water sports and recreational activities.

Lake Gregory, sometimes also called Gregory Lake or Gregory Reservoir, is a reservoir in heart of the tea country hill city, Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka. Lake Gregory was constructed during the period of British Governor Sir William Gregory in 1873.

We also visited one viewpoint name Shanthi Pura Viewpoint. Shanthi Pura Viewpoint is in Nuwara Eliya. It’s better to go on a clear day. The mist reduces visibility. But still blocking some views. It is not very clear. I capture all the beautiful spots of that place plus tried a few poses as well along with my driver also I clicked a photo. We were having fun at that place, enjoying everything. Then we went from there to catch our flight and we were travelling continuously without any stoppage for 4-5 hours.

The driver drops us at the same mall in the city side, as I ask him to do so. I told him that we will be having our dinner over here and then will go to the airport at 12 midnight, so I ask the driver to stay with us till that time. We had our luggage with us so after done with dinner he drops us at the airport. My flight was at 12 am at midnight for Colombo, while my cousin’s flight was at 4 am so he must wait at the airport till that time. This is how my trip was completed and I enjoyed this trip a lot, collected lots of memories from here. I hope you like it!
