Day 8 : Exploring Oeschinen Lake and an Evening in Interlaken, Switzerland (Sep’26)

After a rainy night in Switzerland, we woke up to beautiful weather on the morning of 14 September 2026. The view from our Airbnb in the peaceful village of Wilderswil was refreshing, with the surrounding mountains and village scenery looking lovely after the rain.

Our plan for the day was to travel towards Kandersteg, enjoy lunch nearby, and then take a gondola ride up into the mountains for a short trek to the beautiful Oeschinen Lake. Later in the evening, we planned to return to Interlaken and spend some relaxing time in the city.

It turned out to be another wonderful day in Switzerland, filled with mountain views, walking, photography, and a peaceful evening.

A Beautiful Morning in Wilderswil Village

We were staying at an Airbnb in Wilderswil, a small village near Interlaken.

The previous night had been rainy, but fortunately, the morning weather was much better. It was a lovely start to the day, and the scenery around our accommodation was beautiful.

One of the things I enjoyed about staying in Wilderswil was the peaceful village atmosphere. It was nice to experience a quieter side of Switzerland while still being close to Interlaken and other mountain attractions.

The trek took us approximately 30 minutes. The route was surrounded by beautiful Alpine landscapes, and there were plenty of opportunities to stop and capture the scenery.

Although it was a relatively short walk, the mountain views made the experience special.

Spending Time at Beautiful Oeschinen Lake

After walking for around 30 minutes, we finally reached Oeschinen Lake, also known as Oeschinensee.

The lake is surrounded by impressive mountains, making it one of the most beautiful natural places we visited during our Switzerland journey.

The sunny weather made the scenery even more attractive.

We spent approximately one hour near the lake, enjoying the peaceful surroundings and taking lots of photographs.

There was no need to rush. We simply enjoyed the views, relaxed for a while, and appreciated the natural beauty around us.

For me, this was one of those travel experiences where the scenery itself was enough to make the day memorable.

After spending time at the lake, we started our return walk towards the gondola station and travelled back down to Kandersteg.

Returning to Interlaken for the Evening

After our mountain excursion, we returned to Interlaken to spend the evening in the city.

Interlaken has a lively atmosphere, but it also offers beautiful open spaces where visitors can simply relax and enjoy the surrounding mountains.

We walked around the central area before spending some time at Höhematte Park, one of the best-known open green spaces in Interlaken.

After a day of trekking and sightseeing, it was nice to sit down, enjoy a glass of wine, and watch the scenery.

Sometimes, the best travel moments are not about visiting another attraction. They are simply about sitting somewhere beautiful and enjoying the atmosphere.

Höhematte Park and the Bollywood Connection

Höhematte Park is located in the heart of Interlaken and offers an open view of the surrounding mountains.

Nearby is a statue of the famous Indian film director Yash Chopra, who played an important role in making Switzerland popular among Indian travellers through Bollywood films.

For Indian visitors, this connection makes Interlaken even more interesting.

The Hooters restaurant was located across from the park, where we later decided to have dinner.

We spent a pleasant evening in this central area, walking around, enjoying the mountain views, and relaxing after our visit to Oeschinen Lake.

After spending most of the day outdoors, it was a nice place to finish our evening before returning to our accommodation.

The restaurant’s central location made it convenient after our time at Höhematte Park.

After dinner, we caught a bus back to Wilderswil village, where we were staying.

We returned to our accommodation at around 9 PM.

It had been a full day, starting with the peaceful morning views in Wilderswil, followed by lunch near Kandersteg, a gondola ride and trek to Oeschinen Lake, and finally a relaxing evening in Interlaken.

Looking back, 14 September 2026 was another memorable day of our Switzerland journey.

Oeschinen Lake was definitely the highlight, especially because we were lucky to have sunny weather after the previous night’s rain.

The walk to the lake, the mountain scenery, and the time spent taking photographs made the visit worthwhile.

Ending the day with a glass of wine at Höhematte Park and dinner in Interlaken was a perfect way to relax.

It was a simple but beautiful day, and another lovely memory from our Switzerland travels.
