Every traveler remembers their very first visit to a destination, and for me, that destination was Bangkok in 2003. It was my introduction to Thailand—a city filled with vibrant streets, welcoming people, colorful markets, delicious food, and a unique blend of tradition and modern life. Looking back today, those early memories are even more meaningful as I compare the Bangkok of 2003 with the dynamic city it has become.

Why is your 2003 Bangkok trip so memorable?

It was my first visit to Thailand, introducing me to Bangkok’s unique culture, food, people, and vibrant city life.

What was Bangkok like in 2003?

Bangkok already had its famous temples, markets, and shopping districts, but the skyline, transportation network, and tourism infrastructure have grown significantly since then.

How has Bangkok changed since 2003?

The city has expanded with more modern shopping malls, improved public transportation, new attractions, and an even more international atmosphere.

What were your favorite memories from the trip?

Exploring local markets, trying authentic Thai cuisine, visiting famous landmarks, and experiencing Thai hospitality made the journey unforgettable.

Was 2003 a good time to visit Bangkok?

Yes. It offered an authentic experience with many of the city’s iconic attractions while retaining much of its traditional charm.

What food impressed you the most?

Traditional Thai dishes, tropical fruits, street food, and local desserts left a lasting impression.

Would you recommend Bangkok for first-time travelers?

Absolutely. Bangkok is an excellent destination with something for every traveler, from culture and history to shopping and food.

How many days should first-time visitors spend in Bangkok?

A stay of 3–5 days is ideal to experience the city’s major attractions, local cuisine, and unique neighborhoods.

Why do you continue visiting Bangkok?

Every visit reveals something new while allowing me to reconnect with the places and memories that first drew me to Thailand.

What makes this travel memory special today?

Looking back after many years highlights not only how much Bangkok has evolved but also how one journey can shape a lifelong love for travel.

Six months have passed by working in Bangkok and the major difficulties I was facing were of Thai language and food, still, I do not get used to food over there. All I use to do that after my breakfast I skip my lunch but for a long time I could not handle this so I thought of trying chicken and went to KFC restaurant for that, for the first time I tried chicken over there.

Then slowly I get used to it along with MC Donald and pizza as well. Frequently I started having these food items in my dinner as well, I still have less food during my lunchtime as still I don’t understand the Thai language nor even, I have any idea about their food items. The third issue with me was when I went out for lunch with my colleagues and they always order on my behalf so I never felt the need of learning the Thai language as with them I talk in English nor there was any need of exploring Thai food or anything related to it, so it became my comfort zone and just wanted to be in my world.

First Trip to Home in Dehradun, India

Time was passing like that only, but whenever I think of going back to India, it makes me panic such as I might not lose all this fun and the way I am living in Bangkok. So, I always use to ignore whenever my boss asks me to visit India and reply to him that I will visit after a year.

Finally, Leaving India? OR Just for Travel? Actually, It was for Solo Trip.

Moving further ahead with my story, as I said in my previous chapter I had fixed my mind to go to Thailand only, and before the end of 2002 I finally started planning to go to Thailand. So the person whom I trust I started talking to them. There was an uncle of mine who was close to me and currently lives in Dehradun, he already had a trip to Thailand, so I went away to ask him about the atmosphere, work availability, etc., just to gain some confidence, as I was getting nervous to travel alone to Thailand.

How Did I Plan My First International Solo Trip?

At that time yahoo chatting was in trend, and use to have rooms, so until and unless the opponent doesn’t accept your request, one cannot do the chatting. I also started chatting in the Thailand room and at that time people use to be friendly and become genuine buddies with whom one can daily chat. Every day in the evening I use to go to the cafe to do chatting for a couple of hours in Dehradun.

My USA dreams were shattered in Bangalore in 2001. The course I was taking before studying was a fraud, they locked the company and run away from that place.

Now my Bangalore journey was above to start after Kanpur. As I mentioned in my previous chapter that my contract got over and have to leave the job, so whatever amount I have saved (approx. 80000 INR) I went to Bangalore with that in search of a new job, which was an IT hub. For once, I had already visited Bangalore so I know how the place was, this was a time to find a job. I reached Bangalore and was staying at my friend’s brother’s place.

My Job Search Experience In Bangalore

For the first time, I realized how exactly one stays with students and felt that stuff because I never lived a hostel life and always lived with my family only. It was a totally different experience for me living with students as the way they use to talk, eat, hang out, etc. kind of stress-free life. I was the elder one amongst them as they all were studying. Three to four students were staying together so I thought that I will stay for a month till I got my job, then I will move to some other place once I get the job. The way I had started my life in Kanpur, in the same way, I will do my fresh start in Bangalore. Every morning I use to prepare breakfast for everyone as I was living there without rent so this much I can do for them. After that, I get fresh and up and went in search of a job as I use to have certain companies address with me
