Day 5 – Montmartre & Eiffel Tower Lights on Our Last Night in Paris : France (Sep’26)

Day 5, 6th September, was our final full day and last night in Paris.

By this point in our journey, we had settled into a comfortable travel routine. We usually preferred to keep our mornings relaxed rather than rushing out early, and our last day in Paris was no different.

We took our time during the morning, had lunch and then planned to spend the evening exploring Montmartre.

Spending the Evening in Montmartre

After lunch, we headed towards Montmartre.

The area had a completely different atmosphere from many of the other parts of Paris we had explored during the previous four days.

We stopped for coffee and then spent time simply walking around the local streets and markets.

I always enjoy doing this while travelling. Famous attractions are important, but walking through local areas, looking at small shops and markets, stopping for coffee and watching everyday life gives you another feeling for a city.

And because this was our last evening in Paris, we were in no hurry.

Exploring Place du Tertre

While exploring Montmartre, we made our way up to Place du Tertre.

This was another beautiful part of our evening. We walked around the square, enjoyed the surroundings and spent some time taking in the atmosphere of Montmartre.

Instead of trying to fit several more attractions into our final day, we simply enjoyed being there.

A Wonderful French Dinner in Montmartre

As evening arrived, it was time for dinner.

For our last dinner in Paris, we chose a French restaurant opposite Place du Tertre.

It turned out to be a wonderful way to finish our evening in Montmartre.

Sitting there and enjoying a French dinner on our final night made the evening feel a little more special. After five days of exploring Paris, we knew our time in the city was almost over.

But there was still one thing we wanted to experience before leaving.

Back to the Eiffel Tower for the Night Lights 🗼

On Day 4, we had spent two to three hours around the Eiffel Tower, but because we were tired, we didn’t stay late enough to see it illuminated at night.

So for our final night in Paris, we decided to go back.

This time, we specifically wanted to experience the Eiffel Tower after dark.

We reached the area around 30 minutes before the lights, which gave us enough time to find a good place and enjoy the changing evening atmosphere around the tower.

At around 9 PM, we finally got the experience we had missed the previous evening.

Seeing the Eiffel Tower illuminated at night and watching its different colours was a wonderful way to end our Paris journey.

We stayed there enjoying the view and the atmosphere before finally deciding it was time to return.

Our Last Night in Paris

At around 10:30 PM, we arrived back at our Airbnb.

It was our final night in Paris.

Over five nights, we had experienced so many different sides of the city—from famous landmarks and beautiful gardens to local streets, markets, cafés, different foods and quiet moments when we simply sat down and enjoyed our surroundings.

We didn’t try to rush through Paris.

Some mornings started slowly. Some afternoons were spent walking. Sometimes we stopped for coffee or ice cream, and sometimes we simply sat somewhere beautiful and watched the city around us.

That relaxed style of travelling made these five nights even more enjoyable for us.

Now it was time to say goodbye to Paris and continue our European journey.

Our next destination: Zurich, Switzerland.

And another new experience was about to begin.
